Treat it like a baby and it will grow up big and strong!
- Your tattoo has been covered with film to stop bacteria entering the new wound, keep it on for a minimum of 2 hours (max 6). DO NOT remove the film until you are ready to clean it.
- Once removing the film, wash the tattoo using warm water & clean hands only. You can pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. (Remember that a hand/bath towel which have been used already house bacteria which you don’t want to get on your new tattoo)
- At this point you have 2 options: if the tattoo isn’t going to be covered with clothing or bedding for the next few hours then apply a small amount of Bepanthen onto the dry tattoo & leave it to heal. Make sure that you don’t touch the wound if you haven’t cleaned your hands with an antibacterial soap. Option two (if the tattoo will be in contact with clothing or bedding) is to re-cover the tattoo for another 4-6 hours, or overnight, with some more clean film & no Bepanthen.
- Now you need to repeat step 2 every 4-6 hours for the next 2-3 days while your wound heals, but now you should apply a small amount of Bepanthen to the tattoo after every wash. After 2-3 days keep it clean & moisturised with Bepanthen as needed & you can start using a small amount of antibacterial wash on the area.
- Your tattoo will begin to peel & itch after about 2-4 days. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH IT! Let the peel fall off naturally or wash away when you clean the tattoo. Itching usually occurs when the area is dry so apply more Bepanthen or gentle lotion to help.
- NO SWIMMING, SAUNAS, HOT TUBS, DIRECT SUNLIGHT or TANNING BEDS for 2 weeks & DO NOT SHAVE your tattoo until the peeling has stopped & a new layer of skin has formed over the tattoo. DO NOT USE VASELINE, SUDOCREAM or SAVLON instead of Bepanthen.
- If possible, keep clothing off your tattoo for 2 weeks &, if you need to wear tight clothing over the area, re-cover with Bepanthen & film.
- Once the tattoo has finished peeling & a new layer of skin has formed over the tattoo, you can stop using Bepanthen but do continue to use a gentle lotion on the area.
- Remember to wear factor 50 on your tattoos when in sunlight to help stop your artwork from fading & your skin getting damaged.
